This image comes from an Instagram post from JoannaHoWrites referring to Tall Paul and a talk he gave to a school in Palo Alto, CA, and brings many of the things we are thinking about today together. As we pause and give thanks, we recognize the challenges we have around us. The novel coronavirus is impacting all of us, and particularly our elders. We note too that this year Thanksgiving comes as chronically under-resourced Native populations are contracting COVID-19 at record rates. In August, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that Native Americans are 3.5 times more likely to get COVID-19 than white people. (NPR, 11/25/2020). As we all use the gifts of technology to connect with our families and friends, we invite you to learn more about the lands and waters on which we live and paddle. The resources of Native Land is a great place to start.
We wish you all a beautiful day of thanksgiving.
