MNDBC Team members pose by our new teardrop banner with our logo as we enjoy beverages in the parking lot of the Richardson Nature Center in Bloomington MN. Packed snow covers the pavement, and leafless trees are in the background.

We kicked off 2021 with our inaugural New Year’s Day snowshoe/hike/ski event, and yes, we called it “inaugural” on purpose as we definitely plan on making this an annual event. It was great to connect with our teammates and enjoy each other’s company, hear each others’ news, and generally remind ourselves that when we come together, we can accomplish great things.

Catching our breath on the trail… or maybe that was just me…

While this wasn’t an official “meet and greet” for 2021 new member recruiting, our banner attracted some attention and we talked with two prospective members. It’s exciting to think of getting back on the dragon boat this summer, and hopefully getting to compete. We learned a lot last summer through our own club activities and observing the approaches other clubs took to paddling, and we are looking forward to resuming training in a dragon boat.

This is a full 10-person boat here!

Right now for January, our training focus is on building consistency, with a week-long club steps challenge starting on January 4th. “Intention vs. intensity,” the goal is to continue or restore exercise habits as something we do each day. Some days, that workout might be what I call “random acts of fitness,” such as parking far away from the store if I need to run in, taking extra trips up and down stairs, squats to unload the dishwasher – you get the idea. Other days, well, it might be a snowshoe hike on a beautiful winter morning. The intention is more important than the intensity. Who’s with us for 2021?
